Is there any work of philosophy that gives advice to people who were not born particularly intelligent or talented? or to those who are insecure about their abilities and intellect?

I don't really care much for research done on it, since western approach to social sciences does a poor job at looking at things holistically, and despite that it treats its claims almost as absolute truths, as shown in your reply. At best it's good at indicating that something may be true.

I don't think that smartness = better life.

My approach stems more from the Socrateic dictum "Unexamined life is not worth living", and intelligence is simply a fantastic tool in that regard. If increased suicidality, depression, etc. is the price for having access to such means, then I still say it's worth it, and can only feel pity for people being locked out of this opportunity.
