There definitely isn't a lack of sensors in the Model 3

Remember the context. /u/youyouxue asked "I'm wondering why this particular sensor even exists." Is that the definition you intended, /u/youyouxue? Or would a simple switch count?

In other words, were you wondering in that post why the car can tell whether the center console is closed? Or were you wondering why the car can tell how hard the center console is closed?

I understand what you're getting at but a switch is a sensor in a very general, ELI5, Sort of way.
