Was there ever a spiritual successor to Vib-Ribbon? Should there be?

Obviously you’ve got rhythm games like Audiosurf that achieve a similar goal to vib-ribbon as far a music-generated levels go, but I don’t think there’s been a runner equivalent on the market, or at least one that took the spotlight.

I’d say it wouldn’t hurt to try making a spiritual successor for yourself, if you have a vision for the design of that game. The key aspect of a spiritual successor that I recommend looking into (as someone who’s in a similar boat) is to try and add something new to the design using current conventions (tapping and swiping is a good start) to add a new level of emergent gameplay to your game loop. The customer’s first impressions for such a game shouldn’t be that they’re playing another vib-ribbon, but a whole new game entirely. This is especially important if for some miraculous reason, vib-ribbon got ported to iOS/Android, your game will need its own legs to stand on.

Basically, if you know how you could potentially expand on the formula, give it a shot.
