Why do you think there is a large amount of animosity for the CBC on /r/canadapolitics, and how much of it is deserved?

To address some of your specific points in your original post -- you talk about "journalist impartiality", right after you talk about wanting to see a network that will go after the Koch brothers, be critical of the automotive industry, etc.

I'm trying my best to be civil here, but when people start twisting my words...

I never said that I personally wanted the Koch Brothers documentary to be shown, nor did I say I wanted the CBC to trash the automotive industry. What I said was that such pressure not to be critical of certain industries is far more common on commercial television, and gave the examples of the documentary, Fifth Gear and Top Gear USA as manifestations of how bad it can really get.

I also personally don't think, from what I've heard, that the The Koch Connection is hippy Green Party drivel.

What made you assume that I want more pro-environment, anti-business

The rest of your examples are essentially a list of programming you like on CBC. You are, of course, free to enjoy their children's programing, sports broadcasting, and Canadian content.

These are voids that the CBC fills and it can even be argued that such content is in the public interest. If CTV and Global aren't signing on Canadian actors because the ratings suck, but CBC takes a chance, that's good for Canadian film and television.

The obvious argument is that if a sufficient number of Canadians enjoy these things, they will thrive on a private network, whereas if there are too few people who enjoy them to sustain them in the free market, then why should everyone else be forced to subsidize their bad tastes?

If I said what I really feel about this, I will probably get my post removed for rule 2. So I will just say this. Numerous polls have shown a consistently high amount of support for CBC television, radio, news and sports. Who is to say if they are objectively bad tastes? You have to take the good with the bad. Getting rid of CBC Television because private channels and the internet have better scripted content means you also get rid of so much more than that. Families in rural communities, on First Nations reserves, up north, in huge swaths of Quebec will suffer. I also believe that the loss of children's programming will be far more painful than you think it is. So many parents trust Kids' CBC and the Knowledge Network here in BC for age 2-7 programming that isn't a 21 minute toy advertisement or extremely dumbed down like Caillou.
