Not based solely on them, but on the people who perpetuate the stereotype that women aren't ever safe. That combined with street harassment really does make things seem unsafe when you're young and haven't figured out that catcallers are spineless, and that it's more fun to take a video of them and watch them get embarrassed than it is let them ruin your day.

But yeah, I'm an adult and still get shit for walking alone at the park *during the day*, because people are so obsessed with this idea that there are rapists behind every bush waiting to jump out and attack any woman passing by. It's much more likely to be attacked by a person you know than a stranger.
