Theres a part of me that wishes Disney would have a bad year....

I think (if Disney actually cared about improving our experiences at the parks) that they could do the following:

  1. More automation! Humans are slow. We could argue about what can and cannot be automated in the parks, but there were many instances where I could have envisioned robots or computers making lines move much faster.
  2. More automation! I wonder if the MyDisneyExperience app might be capable of serving as a traffic management app - maybe they could offer an extra FastPass if you follow a suggested itinerary or route through the park based on crowd density. I always notice that while I'm in the 90 minute line, another ride I want to go on has a 30 minute wait, but by the time I get there the wait for that ride has gone up to an hour. A little traffic management by an intelligent algorithm might be capable of spreading the traffic out. And anyone willing to obey the algorithm could be rewarded with a fastpass bonus.
  3. Continued expansion. they were building a few things while I was there last week, more attractions might mean more guests, but it also means the guests have more places to spread out to.
  4. Line up for quick service meals the right way - instead of making us gamble on which line will move faster, have a single snaking line that branches out to the next available cast member (i.e., the proper way to queue)
  5. Stop pinching pennies, Disney! The most annoying part of my trip this time was the shuttle from my Disney Resort (which I paid extra for with the hopes that my experience would be better than when I stayed off site and took a city bus to the parks). There simply needs to be more shuttles. I don't know how it's not a safety hazard to have four year old kids standing on a moving bus under the feet of adults with fifty pound strollers in their hands. They should only allow as many passengers as can fit in the seats and if they don't have enough room they should have another shuttle come within five minutes. I know this costs them money, but when they charge $10 for a hot dog ... how can they not afford to treat us like valued guests and not like cattle?

Don't take my post the wrong way, we had a great time ... but I can see the parks are truly at the breaking point. To wait in line 90 minutes for a ride that lasts two minutes ... that really sucks the magic out of it.
