Things that puzzled you when you first discovered BTS

I figured as much and I appreciate you sharing what you know. The concept of age hierarchy isn’t new to me, I’m of various Asian heritages. I understand that the maknae role exists throughout Korean culture and refers to the youngest person in the group, who then has to essentially defer to everyone else older. However, from a business perspective, from what I’ve seen, kpop companies chose a member whose personality fits the maknae role because it’s what they think that public wants/expect. Not all maknae of kpop groups have the same personality, they just have a quality that plays well with the role of maknae, either by fulfilling that expectation or playfully subverting it (the maknae who bullies his hyungs). That doesn’t mean that they are chosen only to be a maknae in the group, but just that it’s part of the consideration when the company looks at the group dynamic they want to have. That’s what I’ve observed and you don’t agree with that and that’s ok.
