A third of Californians dreaming of a country without Trump, poll says

Almost everything you've described has parallels to the Trump presidency.

the atrocities committed by the British

I consider dismantling the EPA, education, social security, medicare, medicaid, reproductive rights, and institutional discrimination against muslims to be atrocities.

Hell, repealing Obamacare alone will kill more Americans in 2 years than died over the entire course of the revolutionary war.

the realization that they are indeed a tyrannical ruler

This one is a stretch right now, but Trump is extremely authoritarian. Also insane. He's got the makings of a tyrant for sure. I really hope our government is robust enough to prevent that from happening, but this whole ordeal has taught me not to assume anything.

They only wanted fairness and equality but the British didn't see them as being first class citizens of the empire

I only want fairness in the Senate and the EC. I want person to equal one vote. As a Californian I am absolutely a second class citizen of the United states.

the realization that the British were sending the largest invasion fleet in human history

Another huuuuge stretch, but I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Trump starts sending in the military to quell protests. Not the same as an invasion fleet mind you. Though he's already basically threatened to send the military in to take over Chicago.

Trump is absolutely terrifying, and most Californian's agree with me. This is not just liberal pushback against a Republican president, no sane person felt this way after Bush was elected. This kind of sentiment is not going away, indeed the first 4 days of his presidency indicate things are going to get much, much worse.
