Those living in ulu places, how is your commute like?

Used to live inside inner Bukit Timah, and the walk in was really long, like 20 minutes+; I walked up and down several hills just to get to my place (but luckily there were shortcuts). Thankfully once I actually got out of the estate there were LOADS of buses (I miss this now that my place only has like...3 buses). However it would take an hour just to get to Orchard/ Newton/Novena by bus +/ MRT (long Dunearn road traffic jam). It took 1 1/2 hours to go to my school around Katong by bus, then 1 hour+ to the school I next went to near Vivo. And then factor in my 20 minute walk-in.....so yeah, lots of wasted time. (I just worked on the bus for efficiency and time's sake. Other times I would just stare out of the window and observe the world. On the (slightly weird) plus side, that's deepened my connection with and admiration for Singapore)

I can kind of understand why many Bukit Timah kids' parents hire chauffeurs (eyeroll, I know). But a Bukit Timah rite of passage is the long walk in. A lot of my friends just rode bikes in (or nowadays scooter). And yeah, cars would bring great convenience to us. I was always thankful to the neighbours who'd give me a lift when they saw me walking in.

All that said, it somewhat doesn't matter anyway. Because it takes time to go out anywhere (even by car), residents normally just eat and shop nearby. And friends normally live fairly near too so we never really travel far out. In conclusion: the Bukit Timah bubble is real

Now that I've moved to the central area near by an MRT everything is more or less at my doorstep! (Except Jurong & the East)
