Those of you who did a gender reveal party, did you know the gender in advance or did you find out at the same time as your guests?

We did our main one sort of last minute and then a few subsequent ones.

At about 10 weeks I ordered an at-home gender mail-in testing kit. Originally I just wanted to find out for planning. I sent out the results and made the results option transparent to me. But with the beginning of covid kicking in I started to think it might be a nice thing for just me and my husband to do a reveal with each other. And it grew a little from there to include our family. Both of our parents live in different states. So I called around to the local bakeries to them and us and found ones still open during covid.

I had to do a little ninja work to hide the results from my screen and forward the email to each bakery.

We planned a virtual chat and had each of our parents pick up the gender reveal cupcakes and we picked up ours. We cued up the video call with the 8 of us and all cut / bit into our cupcakes at the same time.

It was a really nice moment and I'm so glad we did it intimately as a family.

It was so nice that I planned a few more video reveals with friends. And it was great to see their reactions. For the friends I sent homemade peanut butter cups with pink centers. (Had to figure out dying peanut butter! Ultimately mixed it with bright pink frosting.)

Normally I might not be into this kind of thing but it was ultimately a nice event, especially during these strange times. I wouldn't have wanted to find out among acquaintances or at a big party but if you find out with people close to you it's a nice shared moment.
