Me and a good female friend made a pact like that while in our 20s. If we were both single at 40, we'd get married. Despite working at 3 jobs together, being roommates for a while, it was always platonic, we never hooked up. She had a couple of boyfriends over the years, but despite our mutual friends thinking that we just had to have had sex at some point, we never did. There was a good reason.

I knew she was lesbian but wasn't able to come out and was really trying to hide it. There was no pressure from me and I was totally supportive.

She moved away and we lost touch before we turned 40. I found her on Facebook a few years ago and we caught up with each other. I'm married now and she is still single at 50.
