To those who’ve moved overseas...

I'm not from Singapore, but my best friend is from Singapore. He has told me a lot about Singapore and life compared to Perth, Australia. Least to say he is very negative about Singapore.

His parents and him moved over to Australia a few years ago. They decided to move for various reasons, the strongest reason being avoiding the military for their son. I'm not too familiar with the process, but it's something like the parents had to work and stay in Australia for a certain amount of time, afterwards they are able to obtain permanent residency and then citizenship. His has expressed how much they like life here and would never ever go back. He told me people in Australia are nicer, more caring of others, that people here don't compete with each other so ruthlessly, the country cares about it's citizens more, less stress, not crowded, he told me so many things over the years I could keep going. He said the only thing that Singapore does better is crime and safety, but to him he would sacrifice that to have a substantially better life any day. I have never known anyone who moved to a new country and told me that he did not feel homesick one bit, but he said that me stressing to me to let that statement sink in.
