Thoughts on the African Union?

Border disputes are a very big problem in Africa.

IMO The African Union would be a great place for African countries to peacefully negotiate actual legit borders with one another rather than the arbitrary bullshit Britain/France/Belgium/etc pushed on them.

Ironically, the African Union would probably work a lot better afterwards (assuming everyone was more or less happy with the results). It could be a really good way to foster free trade and peace on the continent.

Unfortunately this places the AU in a kind of catch-22 - it won’t work well unless borders are re-aligned, and you can’t re-align those borders peacefully unless the AU works well.

So you end up with war. A lot of war. Which is bad for everyone.
