Thoughts on the Kallax?

It's okay. It's a good size for records. It's made out of particle board, so there's inherent acoustic advantages if you keep your turntable on top of it. It's easy to assemble. It looks nice - no one is going to mistake it for Amish-made heirloom furniture, but the neutral veneers avoid that garish plasticy aesthetic of many Ikea pieces; they do have it in bright colors if that's your thing, with my apologies for calling it garish. It's plenty sturdy, I have a 2x4 unit filled with vinyl and occasionally move it for cleaning and whatnot, but like much Ikea furniture I suspect it'll get a little wobbly over time if you move it around too much. The larger square units are much stronger if oriented a particular way, I believe, so make sure you follow directions on placement.

What I don't like is the lack of any backing. You can push records past the back, and I'm frequently finding "lost" records - neighbor records that got carried back by the friction of returning a record, hiding the spines. One of these days I'll probably add a backing or a stop to each shelf.
