Thoughts on these new anti-airbnb signs that are showing up?

Yes. We didn't buy when we could have. I mean, Hurricane Katrina put a lot of us in the position to scoop up all these properties when they were available.(insert sarcasm here) What you fail to realize is that some of us are still trying to rebuild...rebuild our community. community meaning being able to go to the corner store and see people we know by chance and just shoot the shit for a while, being able to go to mimi's upstairs for an impromptu dance party without having to worry about the new neighbors from out of town complaining about the noise, living down the street from friends because we could afford the rent rather than everyone having to move to gentilly or the parish because of all of the airbnb's. as someone stated, it's supply and demand. and don't give me all of your mortgage breakdown information. i worked in the mortgage industry for 15 years, i know prices are higher. but, this is directly related to the supply and demand issues. the bottom line is that no one cares about these illegally operated airbnb's. they are killing traditional bnb's and displacing it's previous resident's to the outskirts of new orleans. the marigny and bywater used to be mixed neighborhoods where people embraced their differences and helped one another. out of the 12 houses on my block, i have about six actual neighbors. what kind of community is that? the fact of the matter is that the mayor and government doesn't care about it's locals anymore. we don't have the money. it's allowing these airbnb's and outside investor developments because it promotes tourism...it promotes the spending of money that we don't have but outsiders do. new orleans is soon going to be like jamaica or disney world. “…there is an idea of a Patrick Bateman ne orleans, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me new orleans, only an entity, something illusory..."
