This is great and everything, but what I want to know is, WHERE WERE ALL THESE GOOD PEOPLE BEFORE?
I was treated like a piece of shit as a teen. Ridiculed for being fat? Check. Ridiculed for acne? Check. Ridiculed for being from a poor family? Check. Beaten in school constantly? Check. Ridiculed for bad teeth because we were so poor we couldn't afford to get them fixed? Check. (oh and how poor were we? in jr high/part of high school, no phone, no car, no hot water for a while -thankfully had electric furnace-, no cable, no vcr, etc...)
My school had two classes of kids my age (small town). In grade 10 the other class had a full period discussion about what a loser I was. Teacher was involved. Guess they thought it would be a good idea to get it out in the open. One girl who wasn't horrible told me about it. I was made fun of every day, they never took a day off, literally. It was both girls and boys doing it. There were only a handful who weren't involved at all.
In 1995 one of my classmates tried to run me down with his car while I delivered papers. One of my customers saw this, called the cops. Charges? Reckless Driving. Couple months later, another classmate and an older friend of his jumped me while I was delivering papers, pulled a switchblade on me and tried to kill me. I had to fight the fucker off with my paper bag. Cops were called, charges laid? None. They took the knife away, that was it. He even admitted what he did. His family was filthy rich, mine poor. He is now a goddamn RCMP officer.
I went through hell from grade 7-11, only slowed down in grade 12 because I started smoking and drinking like crazy to "fit in", which was really just me not noticing anymore that my new "friends" were using me as a "DUFF" to quote that movie that just came out.
So where were all the good people before? Why do people have to read about stuff online now before they do something about stuff like this? Where I live now, 5 years in this city, zero friends. No gf, obviously. Maybe if people read about it online, someone will give a shit?
The Canadian school system failed me, society failed me. Now I'm just a borderline lunatic.
