Thread for humankind: Should GPT or specific AI technologies be limited/baned?

spend billions of dollars, which is still not accessible by all.

The operative word there is "still". Do you know it will stay this way forever? I seriously doubt it. Maybe in 10 years time it could be possible for anyone to train chatgpt on a desktop computer.

Furthermore, I am not aware of any facts that dictate that will always require powerful computing resources to train an AI. Who knows what AI algorithms will look like in the future? They may be surprisingly easy to train.

A combination of continuously improving computers, becoming cheaper to buy, and the potential for AI algorithms to require less resources to train is what concerns me so much. If it were only a handful of billion dollar companies or governments that could make and use "powerful" AI then it could potentially be regulated and people held accountable for its misue, but when you have literally billions of people who could be building the digital equivalent of an A-bomb in their bedroom, that is extremely concerning.
