Guess it was one of those had to be there situations. DAoC had the VN boards which were full of drama as well, but I avoided that part as much as I could. Sounds like SB was extra dramatic though.

Calling people out on their gameplay is fine with me, but from what I've seen so far (game hasn't even started yet) there has been plenty of personal attacks that have nothing to do with actual playing. Simply someone having a different view then the mob results in being called whatever name (filter makes it funny at least) and there is no "proving" anything. Just a popularity contest where the "cool kids" pick on those that disagree or might not be on the same level.

With justifications like, if you aren't from SB or "hardcore" get out. Then again, this is like 10 folks out of 22k signed up. Not exactly a huge number.

I don't get emotionally attached to pixels to the point where I rage or need to bad mouth someone else. Sure I'll trash talk if I win or I see cheap tactics, but that is no different then any game. What I see from some of the SB folks is similar to sports fans. Those willing to go to extremes to prove how loyal they are or how much better their team is which they have zero control over. Live in San Diego and whenever the Raiders play the Chargers, it is just sad. Fist fighting over whose team performed better is absurd to me.

I get it though, many folks feel really attached to whatever and they get into it. Silly as Apple vs Android, PS4 vs Xbone, religion, real politics, and whatever else is out there. But the whole ePeen waving eThug personas are just silly to me.

Personally, I play games for entertainment and to have fun, not to have my blood pressure rise. While some are going back and forth on forums, I'll be in game actually enjoying myself. With how CF is looking, I'm assuming it will be fairly easy to see who is good or not and no amount of chest thumping with words is going to change that. If I lose, oh well. If I win, oh well. There are much better things to be serious about in life.

To me it is rather black and white. If I lose, I was outplayed, if I win, the others were outplayed. No need to bring it to the schoolyard and "I'm better then you!" "my dad can beat up your dad!". Guess some need to build it up and be their own hype/marketing, but not for me. All the build up before UFC and boxing matches is much the same and I find it extremely boring.

When the time comes, I just hope all those talking will be able to back it up. Again, no offense to those who enjoyed UO/SB but the combat/movement mechanics weren't exactly top of the food chain. Point to click vets might find action combat a bit challenging if they haven't played much since those games (which I've seen a few say). DF folks on the other hand should be just fine. All that "hardcore" forum talk won't be worth much if they can't move and fight at the same time. I might get outplayed in game, but no one is ever going to outplay me with words on a forum.
