Three outputs from 2018 Macbook pro

As I understand it, “best” and “cheapest” are very different on Macbook Pros.

The cheapest would be an HDMI dongle for $10 off Amazon, but this will hose your computer’s graphics card and you will suffer severe performance issues because HDMI is non-native. This means that the video will be converted to HDMI from the “native” displayport video signal.

What you want is a displayport out, because the video doesn’t have to go through an additional conversion inside the computer. You then convert the displayport with an external box to whatever format you want the video to be.

I am not a computer scientist and I could be wrong about this sonehow, but the performance difference appears to be quite dramatic. So it’s very silly to use a cheap dongle on an MBP because you’re handicapping what the machine can do right from the start.

Look at Resolume’s guide to outputs in their user manual, they have good recommendations.
