Throwback to Nick Diaz making his pride debut and winning with a gogoplata over The Fireball kid!

I'll get flamed for this, but I just don't see Gomi as being best in the world at the time. Not sure if people have seen this, but as much as I root for them, the Japanese guys don't do as well when faced with upper level fighters.

Aoki, Kawajiri, Hioki, Gomi, Gono, Yoshida among others. Okami was probably one of the best as far as success in the UFC goes.

I remember Aoki was considered the #1 guy years ago too when BJ reigned and people thought he was better. He didn't do tell well when he fought in the US and for the best LW in the world (apparently), after the Melendez fight he went back and fought guys who weren't really even in the top 10.

Who knows, maybe the travel over to the US affects them.

They usually have big padded records against a lot of mid to lower level guys too.

I'd love to see a Japanese champion in the UFC, but I just feel like when one of them is fighting I usually bet against them.

Or maybe it's just that there's not as many of them coming over.

I might be entirely wrong though. Maybe I'm looking at the records in hindsights and it's easy to pick them apart. It just seems like they sometimes get overrated because they're different and they're coming from the outside in.

Now before I get burned at the stake I'm going to go hang myself. Peace out.
