Honestly, OP did make some mistakes, but her Bf at the time did seem to handle things in the most obnoxious way possible.

He has a phobia he can’t control? Fair enough, even if he has so dramatically storm out, but did he really have to say “who pays money to have fucking bugs fly at you” on what was meant to be a nice surprise for him? The situation is already uncomfortable enough without him trying to make OPs feel worse about her sincere efforts.

As for steaming through half a meal prepared for him only to then say “that was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever eaten” I can see why people find it entertaining, but yet again he’s taking this opportunity to degrade OP. It’s possible to be honest without being a prick and it seems like this guy doesn’t fully understand that, in fact he seemed to get some enjoyment out of making OP feel bad.
