TIFU by eating lunch in a JCPenny parking lot.

I only read the TIFU that show up in my feed but I noticed this same pattern of poorly written obvious lies with tons of people somehow not questioning the story at all being upvoted. I finally really got sucked into this one for some reason. It actually is messing with my head a bit, not just the amount of people that believe the lie but then people that start spouting their own bs

like this

"Well technically you can sue them.

But if you cash the check then they can argue you accepted it as settlement."

"basically if you accept and cash the check, you automatically forfeit all rights to press charges against the cops as you've already "accepted" settlement. it's a well known thing cops pull so they dont get some ambulance-chaser lawyer sue them 20 years later for 10 gazillion bucks cause they scuffed your pinky finger while arresting you."

like these people couldn't tell the story was made up and then they are theorizing the motives behind this check that never happened and making up legal ramifications of cashing said imaginary check. These people are also talking out of their ass. There's no way thats a common practice and I found nothing to substantiate that claim.

Im half fascinated half disgusted.
