TIFU by entering the wrong house and getting shot

True, I've never had to use a gun or attended gun safety. And I will never have to.

I have been in plenty of situations where I had to defend myself or others. Unavoidable being a small woman. I can defend myself with nothing but my own strength and wit. And mostly by not getting myself into gnarly situations. Never going out to walk at night without a pocket knife and phone ready, always locking doors, avoiding sketchy places.

You just made assumptions about me, half were wrong. Do you really thing you can make the right decisions in a split second, when you have much less information. NO you can't.

OP's situation without a gun would've been much less harmful. He would be running out, the husband might chase him using a bat or knife. Police would get involved, situation would get cleared up and everyone would go home.

Op was lucky. If that man aimed better/worse (not sure what he was aiming at) he'd be dead or disabled. If that's is an outcome you are willing to risk, in my eyes, you have already decided that you wouldn't mind killing someone, even if you don't know who they are or why they are there.

I would not be willing to kill anyone, in any situation. No matter what they did or who they are. I cannot be held responsible for the death of another. I am not capable of deciding whether someone should live or not, especially not in a split second.

If you think you are, I think you are delusional.
