TIFU by going on the wrong date

I've done this! Was supposed to meet a chef under the arch at Washington Square Park at 8pm. He'd canceled on me numerous times prior but had BEGGED for me to give him just once more chance, because even though we'd only gone out on 1 date before, he said he really liked me. I guess I figured it was a romantic gesture when he said he'd be there regardless of if he heard back from me.

Fast forward to it being 10 minutes past 8 and I'm thinking he's bailing again until suddenly and a pretty good looking guy walks up saying "Are you [secondpancake8the3rd]?" and I said "Yes." Then he asked "Are you here to meet a chef?" and when I said "Yes" again he said "Great, let's go!" So we talked and we're walking over to a spot nearby for dinner...

I guess I figured that maybe the guy I was meeting had planned some elaborate dinner surprise that I was getting escorted to, as a way to make up for bailing on our previous date attempts.

As we start walking, he asked "Can I throw this apple out now?" and I was like "Uhh yeah do whatever you want with your fruit" and he was like "Don't give me that look I know you have one in your purse too" but I was confused as fuck.

He was really attractive though, so I was kinda going along with it until he asked "so what did the matchmaker say to you?" at which point I realized I was definitely walking out to dinner with a totally different chef who was meeting someone in the same place at the same time with my name!!! The apples were supposed to be so they could identify each other in the park.

TL;DR I accidentally stole a date that another woman used a matchmaking service to get, because we had the same name and were meeting chefs in the same place at the same time. I guess we both technically got stood up that night!
