TIFU by not realising my wife was virgin

No, it’s extremely unlikely, because Indian weddings don’t happen on a random date selected by the bride and groom, the date and exact time that the ceremony happens is decided based on astrology/horoscopes by Hindu priests or astrologers. Since Hindu weddings involve prayer and religious rituals as a part of the wedding ceremony, the bride is asked if she’s going to be on her period, because menstruating women are typically not supposed to participate in religious ceremonies or ‘auspicious’ rituals. It’s considered extremely inauspicious to participate in religious rituals while on your period, and some people consider the rituals null if you happen to start your period during them- so most brides make damn sure that their wedding dates (there’s typically a few ‘auspicious’ times within a month where marriage ceremonies can be conducted based on the bride and groom’s horoscopes) are as far away from their period as possible.

Now, of course, some families and some practicing Hindus don’t think it’s a big deal to participate in any ceremonial rituals during their periods, but it’s very rare, and the wider more pervasive belief is that it’s not acceptable.
