TIFU by not waiting 30 seconds more

My wife did this in our last home which was a ranch style. The doors were the stout original wood doors. The day after Xmas she hopped in her car, realized she forgot something after opening the garage door. She came back into the house grabbed forgotten item then back out to the garage to press the button again. Now the door is closed. You see where this is headed...

Jumps in her car, reverses and I felt the house shake from the opposite end.

The back of her car is mangled, the door is splintered, off track, pushed out of the house and immovable. The garage door weighs several hundred pounds

I’m now furious, full of adrenaline, and have to drive her to work because her car is stuck inside.

I get back home and it hits me. We have 2 garage doors and after many calls realize there’s no way I’ll be able to find a match...so now it’s 2 garage doors being replaced.

In the end I regret being angry. We make mistakes. Things happen. She wasn’t hurt and I luckily had the money by some miracle so in about 48 hours after 3 estimates we had 2 beautiful new doors.

Several months later the house burnt down due to an electrical fire. Life is funny sometimes.

I hope you’re okay, and know it could’ve been much worse. Hang in there!
