TIL that 65% of cancer survivors surveyed by war on cancer said that they had been ghosted by friends or family after their diagnosis.

I'll try to offer a 1st hand experience.

I came from a very religious family, Jehovah's witnesses. I was suddenly diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma. While in the hospital I had true "come to Jesus" moment and asked myself, "Do you really have the true religion? I decided if I was going to die I wanted to know.

I delved deep into our religion's history as well as evolution. It took about 2 weeks on forums like /r/exjw as well as jwfact.com to realize that A. No I didn't have the truth and B. There probably is no god since evolution is 100% fact.

I said "fuck it I'm probably dying soon anyway " and came out and told EVERYONE in my family what I had found out.

That was 5 years ago. I haven't heard from any of them since! I lost my entire family. Mom, dad, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins. Every friend I ever had was a JW so I lost like a hundred friends over a weeks period.

Totally worth it! I'm TRULY happy and free!
