TIL about two guys who used a decommissioned Atlas Missile Silo to produce an estimated 90% of the LSD sold in America in the late 90's and early 2000s.

I grew up in a suburb of a major American city and was in high school during this period. Geltabs were everywhere. You could buy hits for $5 a piece and multiple people I knew were in regular possession of sheets - for at least 2 years. That was a wild, surreal, and life-changing time for me. We were dropping acid twice a week, going to school, and after-work jobs and extra-curricular activities. My parents were basically hands-off at this time and spent the bulk of my time trying to figure out what the fuck existence is and what happiness means. I also made genuine human connections with friends that I am still close to today - and we laughed so hard and it was so real. The sad thing is, of course, that nothing lasts forever. I feel fortunate to have gone through that experience and I am a better person because of it. There were a lot of ups and downs during that time for me in other aspects of my life, and it was my friends who helped me get by. I have 1000 weird stories from that period that I can't believe are mine, but they are, and it's so special to me.
