TIL After closely investigating Michael Jackson for more than a decade, the FBI found nothing to suggest that Jackson was guilty of child abuse.

I know colonialism has ended unfortunately. The world would be a much better place if it hadn't but such is life, I suppose. My ancestors fucked up when it ended instwad of doubling down to maintain things but there's nothing to do about that now.

Yeah I know we exploited folk. Never denied that. At the time that was fine. The folk we exploited were failures as nations/cultures because they were in a position to be exploited. They advanced because we helped them. The consequences of a war we didn't start but had to fight led to the end of the Empire and the freeing of the colonies. Changing social attitudes since have meant that we've done our best to help them develop in their independence - but that change would have come anyway, with the Empire intact while that happened there'd be a lot more global unity these days. We just never got the chance to get that far with it, thanks Adolf. Fact is though that the former colonies were losers when they were conquered because they were conquered and they were losers afterwards because they needed help from their former masters to recover.

The exception, I'll grant, is the US and its independence - they've done rather well for themselves since - but that was essentially a brand new nation built from scratch rather than a loser nation needing to be dragged forward into modernity. Were those nations (including native americans) worth anything they'd've either done it themselves or been able to successfully resist conquest and exploitation.

As nice as it is to allow everyone to frolic along happy and peacefully certain progress is necessary and inevitable for the earth to secure its future and that includes colonial conquest and the exploitation of lesser natives in order to build something large-scale where that necessary development can take place.

That large-scale development took place because of us and spread globally because of us and now everyone has benefitted because of us. Yeah there're some drawbacks and whatnot but the benefits outweigh them by far, speaking day to day.

I just wish the Empire were still intact is all. This world needs a stable world government to deal with international shit and before we expand into space. The Empire would have served that purpose far better than anything else had it not been betrayed by its own leaders.
