TIL I apparently don't know what "anonymous" means.

If it's your union, that's not what I'm talking about. Working alongside a union is not a fun experience. In my old office, you weren't permitted to put together desks, chairs, nor adjust your computer setup in any way except aesthetic (moving it etc.). A tech had to be scheduled to come do that, often with a significant delay, and often taking many times longer than necessary to do it.

While I was in college, I also worked in a warehouse. As a temp, I was forced to pay union dues yet received no benefits. At the same time, they CONSTANTLY complained whenever management had me do something beyond your basic warehouse "pick this up and put it here" type of work. Painting, putting up racks, weeding, anything like that the union would whine about, because even though I was forced to be in their union and pay dues, I was apparently not in their little club so my aggressive work was too much for them.

In my current office (different state, too), we were renovating the building as we were first moving in. During that, apparently the building owner contracted non union workers to put in carpet. Which is his complete right as the owner, and had nothing to do with my company. However, the union decided to ask around, somehow got the name of my company, and decided that WE were the ones who hired non union workers (again, a totally valid choice). Then they decided to go to our headquarters and personally call out the CEO there with a big banner. He even went out to talk to them and none of them recognized him.

The fact that I got down voted for expressing my opinion is pathetic. The fact that so many people just assume unions are the perfect theoretical instances they have been misled to believe is just sad. There are MANY unions that are a net drag on the economy, and only serve as a way to protect terrible workers and artificially force companies to acquiesce to ridiculous demands (see, the auto industry).
