TIL that Arkansas has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the country.

Fun facts, Arkansas medicaid pays for 2/3 of all births in Arkansas. Providers are paid a global all encompassing fee for the care/delivery. Someone at medicaid had this great idea of suggesting and counseling women after giving birth on the benefits of an iud. Makes sense right? You are in the hospital just gave birth why not implant an iud? Docs wouldn’t do it unless they got an additional fee (on top of the global fee) for placing the implant, leg wouldn’t approve additional funds. That’s the situation we are in, they refuse to spend money on birth control options yet they keep paying millions of dollars to cover 2/3 of all pregnancies/deliveries in ark.
