TIL the composition of breast milk will change over the course of a single feeding based on the baby's nutritional needs, which are communicated via chemical info from baby's saliva absorbed into the areola.

Apologies- I work closely with newborn feeding and I have these links saved on my phone for reference and thought I posted the right one

Composition changes through “saliva messages” based around the immunity. During a feed the length of time of the feed can result in the hind milk being lactated which has a higher fat content.

The overall composition of the feed basically is changed through so many different signalling pathways through the mother’s diet, environmental factors, needs from the baby etc.

We probably haven’t discovered them all yet which is the case for many different situations in maternity/fertility care
