TIL A day before she was to guest star on Hill Street Blues (1981), Dominique Dunne was badly beaten by her boyfriend. She showed up on the set with bruises on her face with no makeup; since she was playing an abused teen in the episode. The bruises we see in the episode are real.

I once worked as a doorman and reported a domestic abuse incident where the boyfriend (one of the condo tenants) had beat his girlfriend. I'll never forget her begging me not to call the police. Her face was bloody, and she was crying, pleading with me not to report it. He wasn't there, and I was just a college kid, and I remember being super nervous because she was standing right next to me trying to convince me not to call. Thankfully, I called. The police showed up and I never knew what happened afterwards. he episode is dated 1981 when this TIL happened, but reading the wikipedia info, it sounds like she stayed with him until sometime in 1982. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that being a reporter is rarely easy, and you'll often upset BOTH the victim and perpetrator, but it could save a life. Just do it, don't talk yourself out of it despite the "what ifs" that are playing in your mind trying to prevent you from reporting it.
