I'm sorry, I think we're misunderstanding each other. Adoption would be a great outcome, but realistically, it can't be expected that all those children will be adopted. A large chunk will surely go to the foster system - hence what I assumed the OPs comment was getting at with the 'pitiful results' comment. There isn't a world of difference to the argument, adoption can be as grand as possible, but it's very unlikely that will be the result. Therefore the results of the adoption argument is flawed. I never meant to say that adoption and the foster system had the same outcome, though I still think that there is a connection between a huge increase in unwanted children and the foster system, which it seems we agree on already. Just clarifying what I meant in my other comment.
