TIL of the horrific murder of Junko Furuta, whose case details were so morbid, they caused court spectators to faint when read aloud.

So this seems a poplular question with (understandably) a lot of scepticism.

I had him volunteer at a no kill shelter where he/we would ask for donations. He got to go inside and play with puppies and see what went on in a "guided tour" type situation. There was an issue with a litter of puppies who were sick and dying of parvo. Now, parvo is highly contagious in these situations. Shelters have been known to euthanize a ton of animals to keep it from spreading to the healthy populations. Intake animals are separated from the rest of the population for just this reason. It's a crude comparison, but it's similar to prisons where typhoid or tuberculosis can spread rapidly.

Lots of confusion and panic at times like this and we live in a small community with little oversight (at the time) and few willing volunteers. Shelters are unimaginabley understaffed and underfunded and as a willing volunteer, we were just there.

My son sat on a chair in the back of the room (hey, no baby sitters to help watch him right?) and I allowed him to see. I didn't force him to watch or help.

I'm sorry my op was too vague. I can definitely see how that would make me seem like a bad guy (and I may very well be. It's something I struggle with as a single parent.)
