TIL John F. Kennedy enjoyed a "privileged childhood of elite private schools, sailboats, servants and summer homes" during the Great Depression. He later claimed that he only learned about the Great Depression in the books he read while attending Harvard.

My family is very well off (ready the pitchforks) and the financial crisis fundamentally changed our lives. I was born in 97 and, granted, my father was investment banker, but we weren't exactly totally insulated. We were forced to move out of NYC to Hong Kong so my father could find a job at his paygrade.

My brother left university in 2009 and couldn't find a 'good' job until about 2011. Even then he was very lucky.

It had rippling effects on every economic level, but of course we weren't the demographic that was screwed majorly.

To anticipate those that will criticize (as many do when I speak about my family) my father was always a vocal critic of the irresponsible policies that led to the crisis.
