TIL that movie theater popcorn costs more per ounce than filet mignon in U.S.A.

You know, an excuse always pops up in these kinds of discussions, which is that movie theatres cannot operate on revenue from just tickets, thus they have to charge outrageous amounts for popcorn and coke.

There is a major problem with that logic, which is that it's assumed that only snacks would bring in other revenue.

I would personally pay extra(DOUBLE) if I could get a couch for me and my girlfriend(like, double double, because its two seats). I would also go regularly if there was an intermission in the middle of movies(I'm paying a lot, I don't want to miss parts of the movie to get more popcorn or have a piss).

I would also go more regularly if kids were banned, or theatres had a 8.30pm onwards 18+ rule.

I would also be inclined to buy t-shirts or other mechandise of the movie I just saw.. maybe not for every movie, but the big ones/franchises like starwars etc I sure as hell would buy a t-shirt or action figure if it was there when I left the theatre.

It seems to me, most theatres don't want to adapt. All the theatres in my country suck. Like, fucking suck. We dont have such a thing as 'extra' butter, you get what comes out of the machine. They cram as many seats into each theatre meaning zero leg room and a big commotion every time someone from the middle of a row needs to leave - despite spending huge amounts on new seats every couple of years, they think the fact they are comfy outweighs the fact they are cramped(it doesn't).

I'm sick of going to movies and hearing kids talk.. no theatre here has any system to discretely report people, and no theatre actively monitors the theatre so unless you say something, nothing will happen.

It's like they are trying to make it as bad of an experience as possible, and then wonder why people don't like going anymore.

Either charge shit all for your shit service, or increase your service so it's not shit and people will pay the current high price more often.
