TIL That the name "Soccer" is actually British in origin.

The reason why it’s association football, rugby football, gridiron football, Australian rules football, is because the games are played on foot rather than on a horse. It wasn’t originally anything to do with using your feet to move the ball (basketball wasn’t invented at this point). So when brits say “lol you don’t use your feet why do yanks you call it football???” they’re misinterpreting the history of the name. Which is wrong, but I’m fine with it because Americans are super weird about football. They’ll never miss an opportunity to tell you how much it’s a bad game and they don’t care about it and there’s totally a good and morally righteous reason it’s not a popular sport there U S A #1 U S A #1
