TIL that not only is Adultery illegal in the US Military, but it is punishable by Dishonorable Discharge, loss of pay, and confinement up to a year.

Sadly, this is used to silence rape allegations made by male and female soldiers. Say a squad mate that happens to be male attacks and rapes a female soldier in his unit.

The female, being a damn strong woman, as she willingly joined the military, doesn't stand for the rape and takes it to her superior. The commanding officer, instead of looking into the allegation and doing every conceivable thing to make sure this absolutely never happens ever again, tells her, "Well, you know the man who raped you is married, right?"

The female, completely perplexed by this question says, 'Yes, Sir, I do. Which, I understand, just adds a whole new level of terrible to this situation, Sir!"

The CO then says, "You're right and if you knew that and you're now telling me you slept with him, then I can court marshal you for commit adultery! As sleeping with a married man violates the armed service codes of conduct. You've participated in an action unbecoming of a soldier!" Notice he never mentions any punishments for the aggressor.

The lady soldier, taking it for the threat it is, has to decide if she's willing to give up a career, her pride, her honor, probably the trust her fellow soldiers have in her, (as almost all of the rape victims in the military who actually report the crime are called liars, drama queens, cry babies, are "just punishing the guy because he wouldn't sleep with her.", was just a tease, had it coming to her for being so hot, wasn't complaining when "X" guy fucked her, or "changed her mind after the fact".) and what's left of her dignity. All to not punish the man who hurt her.

None of this, sadly, is speculation. This is all very well documented. To say this doesn't happen is to say that Bill Cosby didn't drug and rape those women. Sure, it's absolutely possible one of them made it up. Even more than that like two or three could all be liars. Hell, I'm a firm believer in "innocent until proven guilty" but at a certain point, you go past that, past naive, past ignorant, and move straight to delusional or willfully ignorant.

This is a fact, (there are 4 different links there) these events happen and it is absolutely atrocious that we as Americans allow it to continue. These women fight to protect us goddamnit. We live life a lot safer because they are out there. We won't let them love who they wanted for so long, the absolute LEAST we can do is protect them, while they protect us!

YAY! I love the world! shoots self through face
