TIL that not only is USA the 3rd most populated country in the world, but if it had ONE BILLION MORE people, it would still be the 3rd most populated country in the world.

First, they aren't just poor. They are 3rd world poor. I'm talking poor like they still have to worry about leprosy. They live in huts that are smaller than a walk-in closet. They bathe in a river that looks like chocolate milk (that is not an exaggeration). The ones that are more well-off can afford a motorcycle and their entire family of 5 can ride on it simultaneously (maybe with their goat) to get where they're going.

Was I expecting them to be assholes because they're poor? No, obviously not. And they aren't. My point was that when you have nothing, it can be hard to be generous with your time or money or anything really. But they are extremely generous, extremely friendly, extremely welcoming, extremely hardworking.

It's not like they're just poor and are still a regular amount of happy or nice... I am talking as a race/nationality they are the nicest I have ever encountered despite being significantly poorer than your average homeless person in the US (a beggar in the US makes in a day what an Indonesian makes in a month -- that is, if they are lucky enough to have a job).
