TIL Prince Harry took a HIV test live on July 14, 2016 to show how easy it is. It was hailed as a "groundbreaking moment in the fight against HIV." HIV awareness group THT has reported a 5 fold increase in the number of orders of HIV self-tests since the prince's broadcast.

Yeah... if you own a TV and have equipment to watch live TV connected to it (like a satellite dish, aerial) you need to pay a TV license, because it is assumed that you watch BBC content, I guess. That's how they don't need adverts for funding. I think you also need one even if you use iPlayer (their free online catch-up service) but that may be only if you're using it to stream their channels live, and not just shows after they have aired. I think the rules have changed a few times.

In a way it's good because we get lots of great BBC content, without adverts, and it is supposedly (but that's another story) unbiased. On the other hand, it's kind of annoying that you have to pay for it even if you don't watch any BBC shows at all, because they just assume you will.

Whenever you move into a new place, you generally start to get letters telling you that you need a TV license. If you don't pay for one, the letters will continue, and they will say they're coming to search your house and take you to court/fine you if you're found to have a TV that has been used to watch live broadcasts. I don't know anyone that's actually been fined or taken to court but most people just pay it.
