TIL Prince Harry of Wales served in Afghanistan for ten weeks in 2007-08. Subsequently he was pulled out of the country after an Australian newspaper reported on his presence in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan.

Sure we did a number on them a century ago, but what country didn't invade and conquer other countries at that time, and in any case who is to say that the Middle East was any worse off under British rule than under Ottoman rule?

I was born in the 1980s. Since then we have absolutely no skin in this game. The US should be thanking it's lucky stars that they have allies (not just the UK) who will help them. Personally, as I get older, I struggle to see what we are gaining from this 'friendship'. Despite recent events my country needs to shake itself awake and integrate closer with Europe, and move away from the US as soon as humanly possible.
