TIL the real "Soup Nazi", Ali Yeganeh, did not like the Seinfeld character based off him. When Jerry Seinfeld visited his restaurant a few weeks after the episode aired, Seinfeld sarcastically apologized to Yeganeh. Yeganeh bellowed "no soup for you!" and ejected Seinfeld from his restaurant.

Yeah, but there's a large difference between actually being a dick and being perceived as a dick though. People get offended quite easily these days so I could easily see him saying something innocuous and having some person get in a hissy fit over it and telling people he's a dick. It's not like he actively tries to find something that will piss you off and then do/say it like an actual dick would. He just says what's on his mind and doesn't really feel the need to justify it.

For example, when what's her name tried to run up and hug him and he rejected her. A lot of people saw that as a dick move but in reality he had every right to deny her and, after people calmed down, most eventually agreed with him.
