TIL, the reason riot doesn't add the 1v1 game mode is because no one played it back in the day. Who would play it if they did re-release it?

In my opinion the standard 1v1 system is unsustainable. My following attempt at a different style of 1v1 is below. Note: This isn't how the system is going to work or will work but just how I think a good system might work. If you have a better suggestion at a game mode I would really be happy to hear it from you explained in detail.

Consider the following:

An 8-player game mode, a new map that favors multiple champions and multiple outcomes (win, loss, tie), your champion starts at level 18, you start with 999k gold, you can change runes and/or masteries between mini-games, you CANNOT change champions, you are not punished for going afk but you won't win any rewards from the game.

The game is essentially a round-robin of 7 mini games 1v1 against the other opponents. You get 1 minute between mini games to setup your runes/masteries/items while knowing the next champion you will face. You then get 2 minute to try and kill the enemy champion.

You get +2 points for killing an enemy champion and winning a round.

You get -1 points for dying to an enemy champion and losing the round.

You get -2 points if neither champion dies in the 2 minute interval.

The above game mode emphasizes strategic game-play because you can itemize for different opponents. You also get a chance to play against multiple players in a high pace game so you aren't spending 10 minutes to get into a 60 second game. I think an appropriately designed map can let different champions shine in a 1v1 situation. Obviously some details would have to be worked out and changed in beta but what it comes down to is we won't get new game play modes if the community isn't willing to try out new game modes.
