The comments on this thread are interesting. They make me think of cultural issues that impact financial decisions. My hypothesis is that the concern for “blowing” the money fast outweighed knowledge about how to invest 2m properly. As pointed out in another comment, investing would have yielded a better return, but only if he was disciplined enough to invest it all and leave it alone. Makes me think of that stat that says more than 1/2 of NBA players are broke within a few years of leaving the NBA. The NBA then stared requiring rookies to attend financial management training. This helped change how these 20 year olds managed all that “sudden wealth”.
