TIL student loans have hit a record high of $1.2 trillion in the United States

It's not the education that's a waste of tax money (at least, not in the U.S.)

It's the fact that sports coaches are the highest paid state employees in most of America. Do I want my taxes to go to uni education? Yes. Do I want it to go to people so that the NFL and NBA can get their minor league for free? No.

Heck, I've been a state employee, and it's pretty nice without a multi-million dollar salary. One of the teachers at my state university got a *promotion * while he was serving time for a credit card fraud scheme..

He spoke to the news about his prison time.

"8) Finally, the human soul has an astonishing capacity to transform a curse into blessing: I never expected I would end up in jail, but I'm glad to have experienced it. I'm truly sorry for the impact my actions had on my friends, family, colleagues and community, but will forever be as proud of teaching an illiterate inmate how to write his name, as I am of the many college students I have helped get into graduate school. I have devoted my life to civic duty and higher education, and these last few years have only deepened the import of my calling." --Ravi Shankar

He got arrested again a little over a month ago. He's still an associate professor at the university despite all the messes he gets into.

Now, his decisions and criminal activity piss me off, but I've met Ravi. He's a nice guy. He seriously needs to get his shit together though. Prison didn't get through to him. Oh, and our tax dollars pay for his salary and his cell, occasionally at the same time.
