TIL When the first female sniper graduated from the airforce security forces as a counter-sniper, the instructor said "Frankly, women are better suited mentally for this job than most men...Women can shoot better, by and large, and they're easier to train because they don't have the inflated egos"

Well there certainly is a historical discrimination against women owning guns culturally in the UK, and I would say there still is. I doubt there has ever been a law against it, past women not being allowed in the armed forces - also something to happen in the US to I believe? And I would also say this culture of women shouldn't really have guns because that's for men is also present in the US to some extent, as we are very similar in culture? Plus, amry thing tends to have quite a heavy cultural effect on how women/men viewed themselves after the wars.

Hooooowwwevverrr. You really don't have much of a clue about UK gun law. Annoys me on reddit people that say you guys cant even own guns its so difficult blah blah. I can. And its not all that difficult. We just have proper background checks, that take time to complete, and you must state a reason for owning the gun - farmer, shooting for sport, etc. You must be registered, you must have a liecnce. And you cannot just own a hand gun, because they are seen as only being used against people. It's not all that crazy really. Just sensible. As far as I know its been like this for a long long time, and as we've fallen out of the use of guns, guns have declined, rather than legislation holding us back. As a culture, we have an aversion to guns anyway as they are weapons made to kill people, you cannot defend yourself with a gun - you can only kill or seriously injure a person. That isn't really self-defence.

Makes for much, much, much less gun crime. Yep, it still happens, but because of the lack of hand guns around the idiots that do get hold of them don't really know what to do and we have special police forces that are trained to use firearms. Done. And we don't have crazy shooting sprees. We certainly get the knifing sprees, but you can stop a kid with a knife a lot easier than a kid with a gun.
