Is it time to jump off the Canon Bandwagon?

I have shot Sony DSLRs and later SLTs mostly however my most recent two cameras have been a Fuji X-E2 and Canon 100D.

There are some old and new features that I wish Canon would include, such as native focus peaking for macro, eye detection for portraits and down the road a EVF for true exposure.

The Canon was purchased over a Sony equivalent as I was able to pair it with both the 50mm f/1.8 STM and a Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 VC - as I was on a budget, the size and price came in a lot below any other equivalent from Sony at that point in time.

I almost purchased the Sony A7ii however there are still some issues regarding non-FE lens performance through adapters. For example, I have several A-mount lens and some of the features are lost depending on which A to E-mount adapter used.

In the telephoto and super telephoto lens group, Canon does so well especially with their 100-400mm and 70-200mm f/2.8 lens range.

I appreciate Sony, especially their A7ii and A7Rii range, as they will put pressure on the other manufacturers to add more features at a lower price point - something that was not really happening pre-mirrorless days.

There are some comments and blogs that bemoan the fact that they are releasing cameras often. I feel these are not warranted as you get what you pay for at the time and without this model cameras would be a lot more expensive and with less features than what it available today.

It was not long ago that Sony was in bad shape in the camera industry with many photographers writing them off. The fact that they have increased sensor quality and pushed other camera manufacture's to become more competitive is a boon for the photographer.

If you are a photographer on a budget, having top manufacturer like Canon just makes getting quality lens on the used market a lot easier.
