I totally disagree with this. If SSA feels your alcoholism may be causing your psychological issues they will immediately deny you. SSA wants to see a extend period of sobreity to ensure it's not the alcohol that's causing the psychological issues.

This is well documented in the handbook and any competent attorney will tell you the same. If there is new medical records of you using alcohol shortly before a hearing and your disability is mental you are screwed unless there is additional disabilities.

I had a cousin who went through this, he was under the assumption that his alcohol use would help him in fact it hurt him especially when applying for any mental disability.
