Time Saving/Life Improvement Automations

in no particular order:

  • an automation that detects when one of our 3d printers freezes, completes, or starts, and sends a notification that includes a snapshot from that printer's camera and it's status. If you fix the problem, it automatically clears the notification.

  • an automation that uses my nest guard to detect when the garage door opens, and turns the garage lights on. Since I have a security camera in the garage for the printers, I have that use frigate to do persona detection, and I have the automation leave the light on if someone is detected in the room after closing the door.

  • we have location tracking on everyone's phone in the house, so when everyone is out of the house we turn the lights off, run the vacuum, arm the alarm, lock any doors, close the garage door, and adjust the thermostat

  • "motion lights but way more complicated!" I use frigate to detect people on my driveway at night and turn the outside lights on for 5 minutes (only after sunset)

  • sprinkler control that takes into account expected precipitation today, and will pause running when a person is detected on the driveway (because the sprinklers sometimes spray the cars in the driveway a little bit)
